Software Engineer
SharpAlpha is a small, focused team that builds data pipelines and machine learning models for sports trading intelligence. We collect and process large volumes of sports data, train predictive models, and deliver insights through low-latency software.
We're looking for a software engineer to join the team. This is a high-impact role — everything you build will directly affect outcomes. No unnecessary meetings, no bureaucratic overhead. Just engineering work that matters.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain data pipelines that connect raw sports data to our machine learning models and prediction systems.
- Work with messy, real-world data — clean it, normalise it, and integrate it with multiple data sources.
- Develop and improve the tools and software that deliver our analytical insights to clients with minimal latency.
- Contribute to model development — prototype new approaches and help extend our coverage to additional sports and markets.
- Build internal tools and dashboards that enable the team to monitor, adjust, and act on model outputs.
- Own features end-to-end: from architecture decisions through to production deployment.
Who You Are
- A strong software engineer with solid fundamentals in Python and/or a systems language (Go, Rust, C++).
- Comfortable working with messy data and imperfect codebases — you improve things as you go.
- A self-starter who can operate without detailed specs. You figure things out and ship.
- Comfortable balancing speed with reliability — you know when to move fast and when to be careful.
- Interested in sports and the idea of applying quantitative methods to sports markets.
- Some exposure to data science concepts (statistics, probability, regression). You don't need to be a researcher, but you should be numerate.
Nice to Have
- Experience with ML pipelines or working alongside data science teams.
- Familiarity with sports data, odds markets, or trading systems.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Digital Ocean).
- Startup or small-team experience where you wore multiple hats.
What It's Like Here
- Small team, flat structure. Everyone has a direct impact on the product and the business.
- We're direct and transparent. Feedback flows both ways and we iterate quickly.
- Quality matters — our models and tools need to be reliable. We take ownership of what we ship.
- Remote-first within Europe, with flexibility to manage your own schedule.
Compensation
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
- Performance-based bonus tied to projects you contribute to.
- Initial trial period to ensure mutual fit, then transition to a permanent role.
